PROJECT SUMMARY: Cassava (Manihot esculenta), is a woody shrub plant commonly found in many tropical countries of the world. It is native to South America and extensively cultivated as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy, tuberous root which is a major source of carbohydrates. The cassava root is long and tapered with a firm, homogeneous flesh. Cassava as a food crop is readily available in many sub-Saharan African countries. C:AVA is a grant from the Global development Program of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The project is focused on developing Cassava value Chain with the aim of improving the livelihoods of over 60,000 households as direct beneficiaries including women and other disadvantaged groups in the country. The project is working on the production of High quality Cassava Flour (HQCF) while also promoting its use as a versatile raw material for confectionery industry.
