PROJECT SUMMARY: This project is sponsored by the Volkswagen Foundation, Germany focuses on diseases that are present in some tropical nations but are given less attention due to less prevalence of occurrences. One of such disease is Schistosomiasis which is affecting so many people especially in Nigeria in varying degrees.
For proper treatment to be done there is a need for proper planning therefore a comprehensive database on schistosomiasis in Africa including Nigeria has been developed with partners at Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Basel, Switzerland. The database is online at www.gntd.org. Empirical model-based maps of schistosomiasis distribution in Nigeria have also been produced.  Number of school-aged children infected with disease and annual treatment need are also computed
